Tokyo Opera Nomori
Celebrating Music, and the coming of spring.
Over a century has passed since the doors to the music of the west were opened to Japan, and the first School of Music was built in Ueno, Tokyo.
Tokyo, now one of the leading cities in the world, serving as a 祖ore city of world economy, alongside with cities such as London and New York, has also grown to be one of the largest markets for music in this world today. Tokyo not only prides itself for being the center of the economic activities for many major corporations, is also a city that prides itself for raising a wonderful audience of music, and for the world-class musicians and artists that it has produced over the past century.
Unfortunately, as far as music is concerned, to many, Tokyo just seems to be a city that is fond of music from the west, and is place where quality shows, and quality music, just pass through.
Using Opera as its main medium, 典okyo Opera Nomori was created in Ueno, to become not only a 喪eceiver of music, but to be a 組enerator of the arts, to be shared with the world in hope that Tokyo can also become a city, which will not only contribute to, but further enrich the music and arts of the world.
We firmly believe, that this new movement needs to be supported by the citizens of Tokyo-- just as they support the traditional festivals in Japan, like the Gion Festival and the Sanja Festival, or like any of the festivals that are held around the nation, and that given time, it will be.
With Seiji Ozawa as our conductor, it is our dearest hope that you too will be part of this new movement to make new history in music, at 典okyo Opera Nomori, in this historical city, as we celebrate the coming of spring.
Festivals, in any form, shift and change over the years, and slowly 組row roots, attaching themselves to the harts of the people. Although this is only our 3rd performance, we, at 典okyo Opera Nomori hope to continue to grow, and share the joy and pleasure of music with all of you.
