Philippe Auguin is a regular guest at international opera houses such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, La Scala in Milan, Zurich Opernhaus, Opera Australia in Sydney, Los Angeles Opera, the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Semperoper Dresden and the Staatstheater Stuttgart.

While studying in Vienna and Florence with Franco Ferrara, he was appointed musical assistant to Herbert von Karajan in 1986 which led him to orchestras such as Berlin Philharmonics, Vienna Philharmonics and several tours through Europe and the USA.
In 1989 began his close relationship with Sir Georg Solti at the Salzburg Festival.
On the occasion of Mozart’s 200th anniversary of death in 1991 he conducted the Opening Matinee at Salzburg Festival and was reinvited for FIDELIO with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1996.
Following his debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 1994 with LA TRAVIATA he has subsequently been invited to conduct titles including BALLO IN MASCHERA, TOSCA, LA BOHEME, MADAMA BUTTERFLY.
Philippe Auguin’s international reputation was secured through a series of acclaimed debut performances such as DON GIOVANNI at La Scala in 1993, TANNHÄUSER at Opera Australia in 1998, ROSENKAVALER at Grand Théâtre de Genève (with TV broadcast), DAMNATION DU FAUST at Zurich Opernhaus, and FAUST (Gounod) at Los Angeles Opera, all in 2000,
2001 he conducted the first premiere of DR FAUST (Busoni) at the Metropolitan Opera New York.
He has conducted in all the major houses within Germany. Some highlight including a new production of ROSENKAVALIER at Cologne Opera, L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI at the Semperoper Dresden, Hamburgische Staatsoper with OTELLO, LA BOHEME, CARMEN and TANNHÄUSER, Deutsche Oper Berlin with LA BOHEME and MADAMA BUTTERFLY and at the Bayerische Staatsoper with ROSENKAVALIER and ELEKTRA.
In the 2003/04 season he was invited by the Bayerische Staatsoper to conduct performances of TANNHÄUSER, ARABELLA, BALLO and LOHENGRIN followed by four titles at the Hamburgische Staatsoper during the 2004/05 season with performances of OTELLO, FALSTAFF, FLYING DUTCHMAN and SALOME.
A particular highlight was China’s first ever production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle for the Beijing Music Festival with the Staatstheater Nuremberg in October 2005, which was highly acclaimed.
2005/06: In November he returned to the Metropolitan Opera for LA BOHEME, in January he did a revival of TRAVIATA at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, in the early spring 2006 he is doing WALKÜRE at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, followed by TOTE STADT and AIDA at Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Future plans include a revival of CARMEN at Royal Opera House Covent Garden (2007), TANNHÄUSER in Tokyo (2007) , a revival of DON CARLO at Hamburgische Staatsoper and DIE TOTE STADT (both in 2008).
In addition to his busy operatic schedule, Philippe Auguin is highly demanded as a concert conductor, having recently worked with orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Orchestra di Maggio Musicale in Florence, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London , the Czech Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony Orchestra .
In June 2002 Philippe Auguin was nominated honorary consul of France. In June 2005 he received the Federal Cross of Merit from the Federal Republic of Germany for artistic recognition and acting upon friendship between Germany and France.
